SF x SXSW -- 16 SF bands: The Morning Benders, the Matches,
Vetiver, The Lovemakers, Scissors For Lefty
San Francisco, CA and Austin, TX -- 11 February 2009 -- Talking
House Records and The City of San Francisco present: "SF
x SXSW -- San Francisco Comes to Austin," March 20, 2009
at America's biggest music festival, South By Southwest. SF
x SXSW brings a ton of the Bay Area's most interesting bands
together to shout out the San Francisco scene, on Friday, March
20, at The Wave nightclub on 6th Street in Austin.
Now in its third year, the 14-hour rager includes an official
SXSW Day Party (Noon to 6:00 pm), and an official SXSW Showcase
(8:00 pm to 2:00 am). Talking House and San Francisco thank
our beloved sponsor and Bay Area icon, modern rock radio station
The One and Only LIVE 105.
SF x SXSW offers a diverse blend of the Bay Area's finest
breakout artists:
The Morning Benders (+1 Records) - Their
recent release Talking Through Tin Cans was named
iTunes' number-one indie album of the year! Having wrapped
up three US tours with Ra Ra Riot, The Kooks and We Are Scientists,
the band is again hitting up venues across North America on
a co-headlining tour with The Submarines. The UK release of
their album is March 2nd, 2009.
The Matches (Epitaph) - The art-pop rock
band from Oakland, CA continue to astonish listeners with their
textured tunes, most recently with their third album, A
Band In Hope. Last year the group graced the cover of
Alternative Press magazine and toured the US, UK, Japan and
Australia.
Vetiver (Sub Pop) - Vetiver's songs have
been described as "dreamy, gentle songs that George Harrison
would have written in some sunny country garden," and
their February release Tight Knit adds new aspects
of the band's sound with light bop that glides along with a
steady bounce and groove. The band is currently touring the
UK, then covers SXSW as part of an extensive southern US tour.
The Lovemakers - The onstage theatrics, infectious
pop and fierce guitar-and-keys fervor get listeners and their
heart rates pumping. Rolling Stone says the twosome "backs
up its flashy outfits and camp stage act with classic pop craft."
Scissors For Lefty - The mischievous pop
rock outfit is well-known for its "irresistable, anthemic
guitar hooks" (Paste) and "playful pleasures [and]
a sexy slink" (Spin). The band has opened for Blonde Redhead,
Metric, Arctic Monkeys, The Bravery and Smashing Pumpkins and
is currently writing and recording a brand spanking new album.
Loquat (Talking House) - With their indie
lullabies off Secrets Of the Sea praised by the San
Francisco Chronicle, URB Magazine, Nylon Magazine, Wired, Mother
Jones, The Onion's A.V. Club and many more, these SF natives
are poised to "explode with life and emotion" (Pittsburgh
Daily News) into mainstream consciousness.
Other performers include some of the Bay Area's most buzzed-about
bands. Critics and fans alike praise The Botticellis (Antenna
Farm), Or, The Whale (Seany), The
Federalists (Talking House), Dizzy Balloon, When
Girls Collide (Crush M), LoveLikeFire (Heist
Or Hit), Sleepy Sun (Sol Diamond), The
Stone Foxes, Maus Haus (Pretty Blue
Presents), Forrest Day, Bart Davenport (Antenna
Farm), and Trainwreck Riders (Alive).
