Now in its second year, SF x SXSW touts an astonishing spread of 18 Bay Area performers -- local heros and soon-to-be legends -- joining forces to celebrate San Francisco music on Saturday, March 15, at Bourbon Rocks on 6th Street. This year, San Francisco plays day and night -- the show combines the Official SXSW Day Party of San Francisco (Noon to 6:00 pm), and the Official SXSW Showcase of San Francisco (8:00 pm to 2:00 am). San Francisco thanks this year's generous sponsors Electronic Musician magazine, 7x7 Magazine, Remix magazine, and Southwest Airlines.
In the 60's and early 70's, San Francisco brought the world pioneering artists like Janis Joplin, The Charlatans, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Steve Miller, Santana and Sly and the Family Stone, coining the "San Francisco Sound." In the late 70's, 80's and 90's, the Bay Area produced loads of iconic artists like Tracy Chapman and Chris Isaak, Dead Kennedys, Avengers, The Tubes, Tower of Power, The Residents, Primus, Faith No More, Rancid, MC Hammer, Metallica, DJ Shadow and Green Day, establishing its importance as a center of influential music across the board. With SF x SXSW, Talking House is brings the New San Francisco Sound to the attention of music lovers everywhere. Among others, this year's lineup includes Bay Area favorites: - The Matches (Epitaph) -- Innovative, charming alt-rock band whose highly anticipated album A Band In Hope arrives from Epitaph on March 18. This year found them on Warped Tour and playing sold-out shows, and Spin.com called their "Salty Eyes" video "one of the best videos we've seen all year"; - Film School (Beggars Banquet) -- Long-time San Francisco favorites. The LA Times says: "crank it and be swallowed whole"; - Chuck Prophet (Yep Roc) -- Performed in January to acclaim on David Letterman and Carson Daly, and dubbed "genius" by The Village Voice; - Sean Hayes -- After years as San Francisco's best kept secret he's finally in the national spotlight with his record Flowering Spade, earning critics' praise and a full-length feature on NPR's All Things Considered. - Elephone (Talking House), -- Favorite local breakouts among local media: SF Weekly calls them "emotional and intelligent," and SF Bay Guardian says "ranks among the best of the Bay Area's rock scene." Performers also include some of the Bay Area's biggest press darlings and fan favorites, including Minipop (Take Root), Audrye Sessions, The Dodos (French Kiss), Loquat, LoveLikeFire, Mud, Built For The Sea, The Heavenly States (The Rebel Group), Nyles Lannon, Port O'Brien, Magic Bullets,Sugar and Gold, and Bart Davenport. 7x7 magazine will be providing live, exclusive insider coverage of the event at http://www.7x7sf.com -- bringing SF's music back to the home crowd from Austin. SF x SXSW Day Party fans will enjoy complementary San Francisco pizza and beer, plus special prizes for the first fans coming through the door at noon! "Talking House is a San Francisco record label and we want to show the world the Bay Area's best," said John Paulsen, president of Talking House. "There are so many talented local artists we're passionate about, in all genres -- and we hope events like SF x SXSW help bring our music community together and remind music fans of the sheer talent and power of the San Francisco scene. In 2007, Talking House Records released three compilations of local artists, including Live From SF x SXSW 2007. And this year's "SF x SXSW 2008" showcase will kick off an incredible year for Talking House -- we have over a dozen exciting releases planned!" "The City of San Francisco is eager to showcase our local artists for the fans and music industry gathered at SXSW," said Jocelyn Kane, Deputy Director, San Francisco Entertainment Commission. "Local musicians are a central part of what makes San Francisco such a vibrant and diverse cultural center, and contribute so much to the City's economic life. We're proud to join Talking House in recognizing Bay Area artists and the City intends to proclaim Saturday, March 15, 2008 as 'SF x SXSW Day' in San Francisco!" Talking House is a record label that provides artist development and produces original content. Its in-house producers and world-class recording campus give Talking House artists room to breathe and time to cultivate their vision, develop their work and bring out their best. |
